Key to Victory
Don’t Give Up Free Kicks. The Spirit have given up some juicy free kicks so far this season and it has cost them. In the season opener, Seattle’s Megan Rapinoe buried a curler right past goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe. In both games against North Carolina this season, Washington has given up a free kick goal. Against North Carolina on Saturday, Sky Blue’s Carli Lloyd tucked one into the upper 90 during extra time to bring Sky Blue within one. If the Spirit want to keep Sky Blue off the board, being smart about where they are giving up fouls is very important.
