Last season: In the 2016 draft, the Spirit drafted Cheyna Williams with the 7th overall pick. Williams played in 17 matches for the Spirit in 2016, starting in 8 of those games, and scoring three goals in that time. With a deep frontline last season, Williams frequently found herself coming off the bench as she adjusted to play at the professional level.

2017 season: With key departures at the position, Williams will gain more playing time for Washington this season. So far this preseason, head coach Jim Gabarra has played Williams and Katie Stengel together for most of their time on the field. It appears these two will most likely be the starters when the North Carolina Courage come to town for the season opener. With a season under her belt at the professional level,  Williams is poised to use her speed to produce more for the Spirit this season.
